Tips for your covering letter
Your covering letter is your opportunity to show us that you are the best candidate for the advertised position.
Convince us!
A covering letter will usually consist of three parts:
- The introduction: Mention the vacant position for which you are applying, where you first heard or read about it, and why you are interested in it.
- The core of the letter: This is your opportunity to give us your reasons for applying for the job. Avoid long sentences, and draw our attention to yourself.
-The concluding section: You wouldn’t leave an interview without saying goodbye, would you?
Finish your covering letter with the correct wording. Mention that you would like to be invited to an interview. Remember that the covering letter is an addition to your CV, not a repetition of it.
Make sure that you address the person who is mentioned in the job profile in your letter; if you don’t have any personal details, then do some research in advance.
Like your CV, your covering letter should be appropriate to the position in question; it should not exceed one DIN A 4 page in length.
Make sure that your letter is linguistically correct; check it twice, and ideally ask another person to proofread it for you.
Make sure the layout and contents are correct, as this is the first example a prospective employer will see of your abilities.
